AMPLIFY YOUR RESEARCH

For the first time, Entrepreneur First and the Nanyang Technological University are coming together to host a Startup Bootcamp for the NTU research community (NTU graduate students, PhDs, and post-docs welcome). Our aim is to encourage the NTU research community to apply their skills and knowledge from lab to market through entrepreneurship. Individuals from across NTU will come together to get a real, practical sense of what entrepreneurship is and explore new ways of translating research into real-world solutions.

Join us to gain new skills and connect with like-minded individuals you might not ordinarily meet.

What is the commitment?

To join, you must be available to attend all three days (Wednesday, 13 May to Friday, 15 May). Programme schedule is as follows:

Day 1: Wednesday, 13 May 2020 — 9.30am to 4pm

Day 2: Thursday, 14 May 2020 — 9.30am to 4pm

Day 3: Friday, 15 May 2020 — 10am to 6pm

Note: The above schedule includes free time given to teams to work on their ideas. You are required to have sought the necessary consent from your supervisor/department to participate.

You should apply if you are:

  • Looking to develop new skills and creative ways of thinking
  • Keen to connect with talented, like-minded individuals from a range of areas
  • Interested in entrepreneurship

You don’t need to be set on entrepreneurship, and you certainly don’t need an idea, team, or product to apply. Just your curiosity and openness.

How can I apply?

Apply through our short form. It’s designed to get to know you better and understand your fit for the Startup Bootcamp. The team will be in touch over email with a decision.

A limited number of participants will be accepted into the Bootcamp.

Application deadline *extended*: Tuesday, 31 March. Sunday, 5 April 2359h (SGT)

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying as soon as you can in order to be considered.

Applicants will be informed of the decision in mid-April.

What can I expect from the Startup Bootcamp?

  • You’ll have a renewed perspective on what’s possible when you use your scientific skills, experience and insights to create real-world solutions
  • An understanding of entrepreneurial frameworks that Entrepreneur First uses on its programme.
  • An opportunity to develop novel ideas with like-minded researchers from various disciplines

You’ll gain this through:

  • Modules on: finding your edge; co-founding vs. being a sole founder; what strong teams look like; ideation and the idea maze; identifying and framing your problem; how to think about competition; how to think about fundraising; communicating your idea; developing a roadmap for your idea;
  • Teaming up with another participant to put your new knowledge into practice.
  • An opportunity to pitch your progress to a panel made up of investors, entrepreneurs and scientists

If you have entrepreneurial ambitions, this will provide you with the foundation and workable frameworks to move forward.
