We’d love to provide you with more information – share your details and we’ll be in touch via email.

Applications are now open for our September cohort.

How it works

Step 1: Apply to EF

With an acceptance rate of 4%, this is a highly selective process where we only admit the best. So make your application matter and stand out.

Step 2: Join the community

Meet your cohort and the EF team starting with the community Slack channel, workshops and seminars. You’ll also participate in our two-day Kick-Off Weekend hosted in-person in the heart of Toronto.

Step 3: Form your company

In the first 14 weeks, you’ll refine your competitive advantage, meet a co-founder and develop an idea.

Step 4: Launch your company

In the second half, it’s time to get customer traction and accelerate your company’s growth as you fundraise.

Our founders

A community of ambitious future founders, hand-selected by our team

We have been joined by talent from leading institutions including Mila Technical Institute, Alberta Machine Learning Institute and University of Toronto, and left impressive jobs at Google, Wealthsimple and SpaceX (to name a few).

They proved, through their behaviour and abilities, that they stood out from their peers. These are the challengers; the driven; the leaders; the ones with the potential to found globally important companies.

Toronto FAQs

Q
Do I need to have an team or idea?
A

No. As talent investors, we invest in you before you have a co-founder or incorporated company. We choose founders to take part based on your behaviours, ability, and potential to build a company with global impact.

For every cohort, our team spends thousands of hours screening applications and selecting the very best to create the perfect environment for you to find a co-founder. You don’t need an idea – but insights, convictions and strong beliefs about the future are encouraged.

Q
Do I need to relocate to Toronto?
A

Yes. People we select relocate to join us from all over the world.

There’s no commitment to stay in Toronto

after the platform, though most of our alumni do.  For any company, the most important thing is to be close to its customers and sometimes this means relocating to where these customers are. We have companies based in the US, South Africa, Netherlands and China as well as many other locations.

We recognize that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected people’s ability to travel, and that travel restrictions to and from Canada are in place. We take this into consideration and are able to make temporary exceptions while large parts of the course are running remotely. However, we would expect you to relocate once these restrictions are lifted.

Q
Can I get a visa to take part?
A

Currently, all applicants must be Canadian, have Permanent Resident Status, an Open Work Permit, or a Study Permit. If you wish to apply for our Toronto platform and do not have the right to work or study in Canada, it will be your responsibility to apply for and procure a visa.

Q
Can I do the platform and still keep my job?
A

No. Building a successful company requires full-time commitment from day 1 and is almost impossible to do if you’re simultaneously working on something else. We fund you in order to enable everyone to be able to focus on Entrepreneur First without the need to work elsewhere.
