  • A*STAR researcher in any STEM field

Only 40 participants will be accepted into the Bootcamp.

The EF-GIS-A*SC Startup Bootcamp is free of charge and is open to A*STAR staff who aspire to be scientist-entrepreneurs. Your participation in this bootcamp will require consent from your respective research institutes to attend as training.

Come meet us on 9 Oct, 4pm at Connexis to find out more about the Bootcamp and how Microsoft, KenSci and Archanan use data science in their companies. Sign up here.

You don’t need to be set on entrepreneurship, and you certainly don’t need an idea, team, or product to apply. Just your curiosity and openness.

How can I apply?

Apply through our short form. It’s designed to get to know you better and understand your fit for the Startup Bootcamp. The team will be in touch over email with a decision.

Only 40 participants will be accepted into the Bootcamp.

Applications are now extended to 14 Oct. They will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying as soon as you can in order to be considered.

Applicants will be informed of the decision on Monday, 11 Oct (if they applied before 4 Oct) and 16 Oct (if they applied after 4 Oct)

Learn more about the Bootcamp on Wednesday, 9 Oct, 4pm at Connexis. Sign up here.

What can I expect from the Startup Bootcamp?

  • You’ll have a renewed perspective on what’s possible when you use your scientific skills, experience and insights to create real-world solutions
  • An understanding of entrepreneurial frameworks that Entrepreneur First uses on its programme.
  • An opportunity to develop novel ideas with like-minded researchers from various disciplines
  • For data scientists: Understanding how your work can be applied in multiple different STEM fields
  • For STEM researchers: Understand and be inspired by how data science can be used in your field to enable exciting new ventures

You’ll gain this through:

  • Modules on: finding your edge; co-founding vs. being a sole founder; what strong teams look like; ideation and the idea maze; identifying and framing your problem; how to think about competition; how to think about fundraising; communicating your idea; developing a roadmap for your idea; how to protect your idea; and potential regulatory requirements.
  • Teaming up with another participant to put your new knowledge into practice.
  • An opportunity to pitch your progress to a panel made up of investors, entrepreneurs and scientists

If you have entrepreneurial ambitions, this will provide you with the foundation and workable frameworks to move forward.
